Spanish ships settled this area back in the 16th century, though it was not established as a city until July 1993. Read more about the history here. Area schools are touted some of the best in the area and are run by the Baldwin County Public School System and supported by the Spanish Fort Education Enrichment Foundation. The city offers great dining and shopping options and plethora of opportunities to explore the outdoors, with Historic Blakeley State Park, Meaher State Park and the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center are nearby. As the area’s fastest growing city, leaders have created a master plan to guide growth through 2025.

Blakeley
Blakeley is a ghost town with an interesting history. In 1813, entrepreneur and adventurer Josiah Blakeley purchased 7,000 acres of land north of Mobile Bay and formed the town of Blakeley. It was officially incorporated by the state of Alabama in 1820 and served as the county seat for Baldwin County from 1810-1868. The area is now part of the Historic Blakeley State Park. Today, areas in and around Historic Blakeley State Park offer unique places to live near nature.
Malbis
The magnificent Malbis Memorial Church on State Highway 181 is the only remnant left of the original early 1900s Greek settlement in this area. Now the area has become bustling with shopping centers and neighborhoods that claim either Spanish Fort or Daphne as their city.
